A team approach to back pain is something to really consider if you have some chronic issues. Back pain is often a complex issue as there are many reasons why a patient may be suffering from it. In many cases, your doctor may be able to help solve it, in others, a doctor may say that they are not able to treat it, which obviously leaves a patient very frustrated. At Back Pain Relief Center here in Vineland, we try to look outside the box and understand that sometimes, especially in more complex and in chronic back pain situations, it may be necessary for more than one doctor to treat and help.

When you come to us at Back Pain Relief Center in Vineland, we will give you an examination and speak to you to try and understand the source of the problem. In most cases, we will be able to put you on a series of treatment depending on what we find, and get you out of pain as quickly as possible. However, there are some circumstances where a chiropractic adjustment alone does not help, and other specialists may be required to look at the condition and treat accordingly.

If we take low back pain as an example, the spine can become compressed, become mis-aligned, and inflammation can build up which will cause pain. Chiropractic adjustments have been shown to produce the best results in reducing this pain and restore function and movement.

So in that case, the compression of the joint was the cause for pain and it is easily treated.

In more complex situations, such as rheumatoid arthritis, we can keep realigning the spine and decompressing, but relief will be very temporary. In this case we would probably refer you to a rheumatoid specialist who would be able to treat that part of the condition, and then you would receive chiropractic care to treat and realign.

Disc herniations where the joint has become so severely compressed, which puts a great amount of pressure on the disc causing it to bulge and even pinch nerves, are another area where we would look to form a team with another type of doctor. You might be in so much pain that an adjustment is not possible, so, a pain management doctor or orthopedic would help to manage the pain while you come back to chiro care for treatment of the actual condition, to decompress the spine, relieve pressure on the disc and get you feeling better again.

Other times, the condition may be so bad that we refer to a surgeon for them to treat and then you come back to us again to be part of your rehabilitation. Other options like physical therapy and dry needling can also help significantly.

The bottom line is that sometimes you have to delve deeper yourself to find the solution to your pain. Do not go to one doctor and then be put off by being told “there’s nothing I can do for you.” I have seen many patients who have had that said to them, and we have been able to help them by finding the right doctor along with chiropractic care. A team approach to back pain is often an excellent solution.
